BookPress or PressBook

Plugin / themes which transforms a WordPress blog into “digital book”. The closest thing exists to this idea is iBooks Author. Too bad it only lives in Apple ecosystem. The idealistic result of this idea is to transform WordPress into iBooks Author for the web.

Some features I can think of:

– The end result should resemble the structure of a book: cover, table of content, chapters + sub-chapters, footnote, dll.
– Visually, i imagine it to look like qz.com. The left side is the inline scrollable table of content, the right side is the content.

have you tried http://leanpub.com ? oreilly has their own publishing tool based on markdown. I don’t know about other publisher yet. and leanpub using git too.

Markdown can be easily implemented on WordPress and git is basically revision which WordPress also has. The big cons about WordPress (hence why I came up with the idea as themes / plugins) is WordPress is damn easy to be installed and it can be installed in almost all hosting service. This is seriously awesome for “you own your own content” instead “your content is in somebody’s proprietary app environment” idea.
